What is a Battery Energy Storage System (BESS)?
A BESS stores electrical energy in batteries and makes that energy available for use later, according to the system's design and operating controls.
Is kW the same as kWh?
No. kW measures the rate of power, while kWh measures energy stored or delivered. Both are needed to describe a battery energy storage system.
How long can a battery run my load?
A rough estimate is usable energy divided by the load, but actual runtime also depends on conversion losses, auxiliary consumption, temperature, state-of-charge reserve, battery age and system settings.
Can a BESS replace a diesel generator?
It may reduce generator operation or, in suitable engineered cases, replace some of its functions. Autonomy, recharge source, long outages, motor starting, black-start capability and regulatory requirements must be assessed.
Can a battery charge from rooftop solar?
Yes, when the system uses a compatible AC-coupled or DC-coupled design. The appropriate architecture depends on the existing solar installation, backup needs, metering and interconnection rules.
What affects the life of a BESS?
Battery life depends on chemistry, calendar age, cycles, depth of discharge, power rate, temperature, state of charge and warranty conditions. Review both the warranted years and any guaranteed energy throughput.
Is an LFP battery completely fireproof?
No battery system should be described as fireproof. LFP chemistry is generally regarded as having stronger thermal stability than some other lithium-ion chemistries, but engineered prevention, detection, isolation and emergency response measures are still required.
What information should I share to request a quote?
